Avedisian announces additional savings
in Parks and Recreation Department

WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian announced today that additional restructuring within the Parks and Recreation Department will save nearly $59,000 per year.

The recent retirement of a recreation complex supervisor has enabled Avedisian to reassign duties at the Mickey Stevens Sports complex on Sandy Lane. That supervisor’s position has been abolished and his duties will be re-assigned to other employees. Those employees have received a modest pay increase, Avedisian said.

Last month, Avedisian announced personnel changes in the Parks and Recreation, Youth Services, Purchasing and Animal Control Divisions.

All told, Avedisian’s restructuring of these departments will save the city more than $282,000 annually.

In addition, last week Avedisian announced his intention to pursue two less expensive options for crossing guard services. By hiring guards in-house, the city stands to save between $145,000 and $339,000 over the next five years.
